Septic Tank Pumping

Septic Tank Pumping

Pumping is the maintenance the rest of the system depends on. Solids settle in the tank and stay there, and once the sludge layer gets deep enough it starts leaving with the effluent and going out to the drain field, which is the part you cannot pump back.

When to call

What usually brings people to this

Root intrusion is relentless here. Mature landscaping and old clay or cast-iron joints are a bad combination that shows up as a backup every few months.

(909) 888-8736

These are the symptoms that usually prompt the call. Any one of them is worth a conversation, and most of them get cheaper to deal with the earlier they are looked at.

  • It has been more than three to five years since the last pump-out

  • Slow drains across the whole building rather than one fixture

  • Gurgling from drains when the washing machine runs

  • Odor near the tank or the lids

  • Grass over the tank greener than the rest of the yard

Once water has been somewhere it should not be for a while, you are paying for drying and repair as well as plumbing.

How we work it

An accurate diagnosis is the whole foundation of a repair that actually lasts.

See our work

  1. Find and open the lids

On a lot of Yucaipa properties nobody has opened the tank in years and the lids are buried. We locate them and dig them out.

  2. Measure before we pump

Sludge depth and scum thickness tell us whether the interval is right and whether anything else is wrong. That reading is worth more than the pump-out itself.

  3. Pump the tank out completely

Both compartments, not just the first. A partial pump-out looks the same on the invoice and leaves the problem in place.

  4. Look at the baffles and the outlet

With the tank empty we can see the inlet and outlet baffles and the condition of the walls, which is the only time anyone can.

  5. Tell you the interval that fits the house

Household size and water habits drive it more than tank size. You should leave knowing your number.

Solids settle in the tank, effluent moves through the distribution box, and the leach field returns it to the soil. A problem in one shows up as symptoms of the other.

Worth knowingWhat septic tank pumping actually involves

We separate what needs doing now from what is worth planning for, because those are different conversations and different budgets.

The number people want is an interval, and the honest answer is that it comes off the house rather than off a chart. Two people over a 1,500 gallon tank can go a long time. Six people over a 1,000 gallon tank cannot. What actually matters is the sludge depth when we open it, because that is the measurement that tells you whether the last interval was right. We take it every visit and tell you the number, so over two or three services you end up with a schedule that fits your household instead of a guess somebody made once.

Our trucks carry waterproof high-definition camera equipment, locating gear, cable machines and jetting capability, which means most calls are diagnosed and resolved on the same visit rather than turning into a sequence of appointments.

We work a wide area because the customers spread out over forty-four years, and people keep calling the number they know. If you are outside the usual radius, call and ask. We cover more ground than most shops our size.

An accurate diagnosis is the whole foundation of a repair that actually lasts.

Keeping it from happening again

Once water has been somewhere it should not be for a while, you are paying for drying and repair as well as plumbing.

  • Know the age of the major components. Water heaters, supply piping and sewer laterals all have expected lifespans, and planning for a replacement is considerably cheaper than reacting to one.

  • If you have had a line cleared more than once, ask for a camera inspection rather than a third clearing. Repeated blockages nearly always have a physical cause worth finding.

  • Knowing your own system is worth real money. Where the main shutoff is, where the sewer cleanout is, how old the water heater is, and whether the property is on sewer or septic. Those four facts shorten every future service call you will ever have.

  • The cheapest plumbing is the kind that gets looked at before it fails. An annual walk of the visible plumbing, checking under sinks, around the water heater and at any exposed pipe, catches most problems while they are still small and dry.

Who you are calling

When you call we will ask a few questions that help us bring the right equipment, which is usually the difference between one visit and two.

More about the family

Big Mike founded this company in 1982 and ran it the way he wanted to be treated. When he stepped down he handed it to his family, Megan Cortez, Saul Cortez and Jimilee Allen, because he trusted them to give people the same service he had. That is still who runs it and still who answers the phone.

Our licensing covers plumbing, sanitation and general engineering, so excavation and underground work are part of what we do rather than a subcontract.

No sales pitch, and a straight explanation of what we found.

Questions we get about septic tank pumping

If yours is not here, call and ask. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.

How often does a septic tank need pumping?

Every three to five years for most households. A big family in a small tank can need it every two; two people over a large tank can go longer. Use drives it more than size.

Will pumping fix my backup?

If the tank is full, yes. If the drain field has failed, the tank fills straight back up and you are pumping a symptom. We measure before we pump so you know which one you have.

Do you need to find the lids first?

Usually. Many older properties here have never had risers fitted, so the lids are under a few inches of soil. We locate and excavate them as part of the visit.

Can I just add a treatment instead?

No. Additives do not remove solids. The sludge layer is physical and it has to come out with a vacuum hose.

What happens to the waste?

It goes to a permitted disposal site. We are a licensed sanitation contractor and that part is not optional.

How soon can you get here?

We run a 24-hour line and same-day service is normal. When you call we will give you a realistic window rather than an optimistic one that slips.

Are you licensed?

Yes. We hold plumbing, sanitation and general engineering contractor licensing, which lets one shop handle work that runs from inside the house out to the septic field.

What should I do before you arrive?

Know where your main water shutoff is and whether it turns. Clear access to the work area. If you smell gas, leave the building and call from outside.

Do you work on commercial property as well as homes?

Yes. Residential, commercial and industrial, including offices, apartment complexes, hotels, restaurants and plant systems.

How this fits the rest of the system

Septic systems are far more sensitive to what goes into them than sewer connections are. A municipal system dilutes and treats at scale. A septic tank is a small ecosystem where wipes, grease, harsh chemicals and excessive water all cause real damage. The habits of the household matter more to septic longevity than the age of the equipment does.

Before we come out

Knowing when the problem started, whether it is constant or intermittent, and whether anything was done to the property recently tells us a surprising amount before we arrive.

The region we cover takes in older established towns and newer developments alike, which is useful, because working across both keeps us fluent in what each one does.
