Tankless Water Heater Repair
Tankless units report their own faults through error codes, which is useful. The code narrows it down but does not always identify the underlying cause, and scaling is behind a great deal of it around here.

When to call
Inland Empire water is hard, and hard water is the quiet reason water heaters here give out earlier than the sticker claims.
These are the symptoms that usually prompt the call. Any one of them is worth a conversation, and most of them get cheaper to deal with the earlier they are looked at.
An error code on the display
Hot water that runs cold mid-shower
Reduced flow from hot taps
The unit short-cycling
No ignition
The difference between a planned repair and an emergency call is usually a few weeks of noticing something and doing nothing.
Read the code and what led to it
The code points at a symptom. We work out what produced it.
Check scaling first
Given local water, scale in the heat exchanger is a common root cause and is often the whole answer.
Test gas, venting and flow
Ignition and flow faults frequently trace back to supply or venting rather than the unit.
Repair and descale
Fix the fault and address the scaling that caused it, or it comes back.
The number you approve is the work we do. If something changes once we are into it, we stop and talk to you first.
Scale is the dominant cause of tankless faults in this region, and it is worth understanding why. A tankless unit heats water by passing it through a narrow heat exchanger very quickly, which means hard water deposits scale exactly where the heat transfer needs to happen. The unit compensates, works harder, and eventually throws a code. Annual descaling is not a manufacturer upsell here; with water this hard it is the difference between a unit that lasts twenty years and one that struggles at eight.
Having the diagnostic equipment on the truck changes the economics of a service call. We can rule things out in minutes that would otherwise be guesswork.
The territory we cover spans three counties, which is a practical consequence of having been the plumber people call here since 1982. If you are outside the usual radius, call and ask. We cover more ground than most shops our size.
We check the obvious causes before the expensive ones, in that order.

Check the pressure at a hose bib occasionally. Above about eighty psi you are shortening the life of every fixture, valve and appliance in the building, and a regulator is a cheap fix.
Wipes should not go down any drain, whether the packet says flushable or not. They do not break down, and they are behind a large share of the main line blockages we clear.
Keep grease out of drains, and that includes running hot water after it. Hot water simply carries it further down the line to somewhere less convenient.
For commercial property, a maintenance schedule on drains and interceptors costs a fraction of emergency response, and it is the difference between planned work and a closure.
Booking is simple and the quote is free, so there is no cost to finding out what you are dealing with.
When Big Mike handed the company to his kids, the thing he was protecting was the way customers get treated. Four decades of repeat business suggests they understood the assignment.
One contractor covering plumbing, septic and excavation means one point of responsibility when a job crosses between them, which is most of the time on older properties.
Forty-four years in the same valley means we have almost certainly fixed this exact thing for somebody down the street from you.

If yours is not here, call and ask. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.
Codes are manufacturer-specific. Tell us the code and the model on the phone and we will usually know what we are walking into.
Often flow-rate or scaling related, sometimes ignition. The pattern of when it happens tells us a lot.
Annually in an area with water as hard as ours. Some units need it more often.
Depends on age and fault. These units are built to last, so repair is usually the right answer well into their life.
We run a 24-hour line and same-day service is normal. When you call we will give you a realistic window rather than an optimistic one that slips.
Yes. Residential, commercial and industrial, including offices, apartment complexes, hotels, restaurants and plant systems.
For simple, well-defined jobs sometimes. For anything that needs diagnosis, a number quoted blind is a guess, and we would rather look first and give you a real figure.
If it is actively causing damage or has made the property unusable, treat it as one and call. Water through a ceiling, sewage backing up and any gas smell all qualify.
The age of a house predicts its plumbing problems better than almost anything else. Pre-1970 construction here typically means cast iron drainage and galvanized supply, both of which fail in known ways on a known timeline. Housing from the 1970s through the 1990s is usually copper supply on a slab, which brings its own pattern. Knowing when a house was built tells us what to look at first.
For commercial properties, tell us about access requirements and operating hours when you call so we can schedule around them properly.
We reach the valley cities routinely and the outlying communities regularly. If you are unsure whether you are in range, the answer is usually yes and it costs nothing to ask.
